Dear Parents,
It’s October and fall is here. My favorite season with the foods, the holidays, and more learning in the library.
This month, Pre K-3 will continue having storytime. After we have read a story, they participate in either a craft or a hands-on activity. Our Pre K-4 and Kindergarten will have a unit on fall. We will finish the month with centers. Our first and second graders will continue to learn how to read a spine label, have a scavenger hunt finding books, and Makerspace. Our third through fifth graders will have a lesson from Common Sense Media called Twalkers. This lesson will teach students the importance of focusing on one task at a time while using a cell phone. Students will have a scavenger hunt using the online catalog, and Makerspace.
November is National American Heritage Month. Every grade level will celebrate this month with a variety of stories, hands-on activities, or research, depending on their grade level.
Some dates to have on your calendar: October 16-20, the library will be closed. Parents are still welcome to check out books during this time. On October 30th, we are excited to host author and illustrator, Shelley Ann Jackson. She has written and illustrated with Jeff Crosby Little Lions, Bull Baters, and Hunting Hounds and Harness Horses, Bucking Broncos, and Pit Ponies. She is visiting with first and second graders from 1:00 p.m. to 1:25 p.m. Parents are welcome to come and sit in.
The first week of December, Kinder through 5th grade will be coding using code.org and Pre K-3 and 4 will have centers. December 12-14 we will have the Discovery Dome in the library. The library will be opened for check out on December 15.
Parents don’t forget you are welcome to check out books. All you need is to bring your telephone number.
Your Librarian,
Mrs. Gibbs
